A Software Engineer's Explanation of Server Ticks/FPS, the Message Pump, and Server Meshing

Since people liked my last post about the SQ42 report, I thought I would do another about the recent comment about server ticks https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/end-goal-server-tick-rate/2872293
To understand how this works, you must first understand the Message Pump. This is basically the heart beat of an application. It is a loop from which there is no escape, so long as the application runs. All applications have an "entry point" that initially gets called. If you've ever taken Computer Science 101, it would be your "main" function. For a console application, you enter main, it does some things, and then when it leaves main, the application closes. In an application with a graphical user interface, that loop has to regularly call a Render or Draw function that draws the UI. This happens on the Render Thread. In a regular client application your Message Pump will look something like this:
while(IsApplicationRunning) { //loop while application is meant to run HandleKeyboardInputs(); //check to see if any keyboard events have occured HandleMouseInputs(); //check to see if any mouse events have occurred, hittest children HandleSizeChanges(); //check if the window has resized, resize children to fit Render(); //recursively render all child controls }
Each function call within the loop will call entire hierarchies of functionality. This same basic principal applies to a server as well. I am using my imagination, as I have never audited the Star Citizen codebase, but its message pump would look something like
while(IsServerOnline) { //loop while server is meant to run HandleOrbitalRotation(); //update position of all planets around the sun HandleNPCRoutines(); //update position/animations of all NPCs SynchronizePlayerLocations(); //receive player location packets and update //internal locations CheckForIssues(); //check all object positions and ensure no conflicts UpdatePlayerLocations(); //send new location data of all objects to connected //players }
This is only the most basic sort of functionality, that doesn't factor in things like Server Object Container Streaming or Meshing or object persistence.
Each iteration of the Message Pump is a frame. These frames are calculated by having a Stopwatch and taking averages of how long it takes each frame to complete across a defined sample size. If you have a target frame rate, like 30fps for instance, subroutines can be prioritized to try to either run on the current frame, or be skipped, based on how much load is put on the servers.
My current understanding, based on Star Citizen's published material, is that there is presently one server for every 50 players, and that server handles an entire star system. Having one server for every 50 players right now is fine, and that number can hopefully be increased as optimizations happen within the code.
The important part is modifying the server code so that they can separate different Object Containers to separate physical server hardware. This would allow them to, for instance, have one server, with its own message pump, handle Port Olisar, for up to 50 players. For v0 of server meshing, I would imagine that, when the 51st player comes to PO, they would have to spin up a new server for that person of PO, and they would be on their own. When the player count goes back below 50, that server can go back to sleep and is available to be repurposed for whatever other area needs it, dynamically. As players leave PO, and go into space, each part of space could have dedicated servers for that area. The same goes for planets, or cities. Each would be its own Object Container, each Object Container could contain smaller Object Containers, so that as players move around, servers would seamlessly spin up or down to host content for the players. Technically, one server could even host multiple separate Object Containers if they both have low player counts.
This would go a very long way towards making the universe feel full and connected. To start out with, you might still only find a maximum of 50 people on Daymar, but you might also find 50 people on Yela, or ArcCorp. Each place could be full, with the game client switching servers when going to different areas. Server Object Container Streaming is what enables this. It is just a matter of handling the trade off between servers, and keeping everything synchronized. I recognize that the posts that CIG makes on the subject are often hard to understand for laymen, but these posts make me feel confident that they are making progress and heading in a meaningful direction toward the end goal of having us seamlessly switch between servers on the fly.
One thing that I have no heard anything about is the transition towards specialized physical hardware for handling some of these large-scale server-side operations. If they are using regular CPU/GPU operations, performance could be *vastly* improved by creating FPGAs or ASICs that could perform calculations with greater alacrity than a GPU could ever hope to. This is the type of hardware used in medical devices, data centers, or bitcoin mining.
I wrote this up purely to help people understand some aspects of software engineer, and no part of it is meant to be so specific that you should interpret it to be exactly how something works. I am trying to provide a high level, easy to understand, idea of some very complex concepts.
If there is any other part of development that you would like me to comment on feel free to @ me with VerdantNonsense :) Stay safe out there.

Numbers on the screen or how digital payment systems make the market fair?

Numbers on the screen or how digital payment systems make the market fair?

https://preview.redd.it/6m1gp2mvotx41.png?width=1160&format=png&auto=webp&s=a83f0346d8008c17968d6a240cfba8fe3fe4e2aa
Continuing the trend of practicality characteristic of the XXI century, paper money is gradually disappearing from our lives, giving way to more practical digital storage. However, the digitized banking that we now use every day is still far from perfect. For starters, it is completely controlled by third parties. No one owns the numbers they see on the screen — control is entirely owned by third parties, such as banks.
Banks create money out of thin air, and credit is a prime example of this. Money is no longer printed when someone takes out an overdraft or mortgage-it is simply created out of nothing. Moreover, these banks charge disproportionately high fees for the services they provide, and these services are outdated and impractical today.
For example, it is impractical to pay a Commission to spend your money abroad, as it is impractical to wait a few days to verify the transfer of a small amount from You to your relative. All this makes no sense in the interconnected and instantaneous world in which We live today.
Thus, the monetary system has ceased to be practical, it is replaced by a higher form of value storage. In this particular case, it is replaced by a faster and safer system that eliminates expensive operations and gives control to the person.
https://i.redd.it/quc2bgmxotx41.gif
Money that you have in your Bank account can be considered a virtual currency since it does not have a physical form and exists only in the Bank book. If they lose the book, your money will simply disappear. These are just numbers that you see on the screen. The numbers are stored on the hard drives of Bank servers.

https://i.redd.it/4nvhydtzotx41.gif
Do you open a regular app and think you have money? They are just bytes of the computer system. Today’s global payment infrastructure moves money from one payment system to another through a series of internal Deposit transfers between financial institutions. Since these transfers occur in different systems with a low level of coordination, the calculation of funds is slow, often 3–5 days, capturing liquidity.

How do payments work?

When you make a money transfer, for example, from your Bank card to the Bank card of a friend or acquaintance, you see an instant transfer, so to speak, moving numbers from you to the Recipient. For the user, the transfer is carried out instantly, and the exchange of obligations between the participants of the process takes place within 3–7 days, the User does not know about it and hardly ever thinks about it.

https://preview.redd.it/rl4aai81ptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdfa10f0d68442aac84c14e3bae5a52e92651878
When you make a payment at a supermarket or any other point of sale, at the time of payment, information from the POS-terminal is sent to the acquiring Bank — then the acquiring Bank sends a request that passes through the payment system (Visa or MasterCard) and then transmitted to Your Bank, which confirms the operation. At this point, there is no write-off of funds. The funds are temporarily held, and the actual withdrawal will take place within a few days, the maximum processing time is up to 30 days.
https://i.redd.it/8njxgxq2ptx41.gif

Currency transactions and payments abroad

You may have noticed that after making a transaction in a different currency, such as yen or dirhams, or any other currency that differs from the currency of your account or buying an item abroad, the amount charged may differ from the amount that was reflected immediately after payment.

Why is this happening?

As soon As you have made a transaction with Your Bank card — the local Bank transfers the information to the payment system: Visa or MasterCard — the payment system converts the currency used into the billing currency.
Billing currency — the currency that will be used for payment with the payment system by your Bank that issued the card. For the US, the billing currency is the dollar, in Europe — the Euro.
The billing currency may also differ depending on the issuing Bank — the Bank that issued your debit card. For example, some banks use the billing currency — Euro when making payments with MasterCard cards in the United States, which will lead to additional costs when converting euros into dollars.
If the payment is in other currencies, the payment scheme will become more complicated and, accordingly, its cost will be more expensive. The transfer rate from one settlement currency to another is set by the payment system: Visa and MasterCard.
If the currency of your Bankcard is the same as the currency of the payment system, the payment will take place without additional operations. For example, You have a dollar card, you make a payment in dollars in the United States, and if you make a payment with a dollar card in Europe, your Bank will convert the amount at its exchange rate, which will lead to additional costs. There are exceptions, some European banks can use dollars for settlements, but this is more an exception than a rule.
Also, if, for example, you pay for purchases in China using a Bank card in euros, then double conversion is inevitable.
Thus, payment in dollars is universal all over the world, except for the European Union countries. The dollar is a global currency and is therefore often used for binding in international settlements.
Now we understand that due to differences in the account currency and the differences in the VISA or MasterCard payment system, additional conversions may occur, which will lead to additional bank fees. as a result, the actual payment amount will differ from the amount debited from your card.
In addition to paying for conversion in the payment system and paying for currency conversion in your Bank, some banks charge an additional fee for conducting a cross-border transaction.

Where do we lose money when making debit card payments?

https://i.redd.it/tykhrd56ptx41.gif
  1. Currency conversion by the payment system;
  2. Euro-Dollar, or in the case of processing payment via MasterCard in Turkey, Turkish lira-Euro and additional conversion on the side of the issuing Bank (your Bank) Euro — Dollar.
  3. Currency conversion by an acquiring bank;
  4. The difference between the exchange rate on the purchase date and the write-off date. We purchased at a rate of 0.91 euros per dollar, and the write-off occurred at a rate of 0.94 euros per dollar.
  5. A large number of currency conversions.
  6. The greater the number of them, the more we will lose when buying. For example, when paying in the UAE or China, buying a product for the local currency, we understand that the number of conversions increases several times.
If we touch on the topic of international translations, we will encounter additional nuances:
  • This is the payment processing time. International payments can be processed within 3–5 days, as mentioned above, which in our dynamic time — it interferes with the comfortable use of the system.
  • Restrictions on the amounts;
  • Possible requirements for certain documentation for payment confirmation;
  • Additional fees and commissions, sometimes hidden fees.
It is not always possible to make a transfer quickly and when necessary due to these restrictions. All this confirms the complexity of the operations and additional commissions that the user pays.

Сryptocurrency exchanges

And now back to the numbers on the screen, this topic affects not only banks but also centralized cryptocurrency exchanges:
  • You top up your Deposit on the exchange in cryptocurrency-then you use numbers inside the exchange, and real funds are most often stored on “cold storage” for which administrators or other responsible persons are responsible.
  • Only when you make a withdrawal from the exchange to your wallet-you are sent real funds (tokens or cryptocurrency).
The same applies to centralized applications and online services that deal with cryptocurrencies:
There are many services, both online and apps, that are centralized, regardless of what they will be called: Bitcoin wallet or bitcoin exchange. This means that when you add funds to an account in such a wallet, the funds are stored on the developecompany’s side. In simple words, all your funds are stored in the wallets of the system’s creators.
If you use a centralized app, you have a risk of losing funds. Although the application is called cryptocurrency, it does not affect its main principles — it is decentralization.
In other words, using systems where there is a Central authority, especially in the cryptocurrency market — the risk increases, so we recommend using decentralized systems for storing currency to reduce risks to a minimum.
Decentralization is the process of redistributing, dispersing functions, forces, power, people, or things from a Central location or governing body. Centralization is a condition in which the right to make the most important decisions remains with the highest levels of management.

Peer-to-peer payment systems

The opposite and standard of security and independence are peer-to-peer payment systems. Using the application-level network Protocol, clients running on multiple computers connect to form a peer-to-peer network.

https://preview.redd.it/ojcg4fz7ptx41.png?width=601&format=png&auto=webp&s=6cc81d1617b0cb64a3f5c7cc6d06a78354386f8c
There are no dedicated servers in such a network, and each node is both a client and performs server functions. In contrast to the client-server architecture, this organization allows you to maintain the network operability with any number and any combination of available nodes. All nodes are members of the network.

https://preview.redd.it/npttc3a9ptx41.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f2dee1e5b19436a847dca96e2b3b7f22b801b57
Tkeycoin is a decentralized peer-to-peer payment system based on p2p principles and the concept of electronic cash. P2P technology is a fairer means of mutual settlements between users and companies around the world. Modern payment systems are imperfect and may depend on the will of high-ranking officials.
The main goal of Tkeycoin is to create universal products that will make financial transactions more accessible, profitable and secure.

https://i.redd.it/gk6j0m9bptx41.gif

What do decentralized systems protect against?

Using decentralized tools, for example, a local Tkeycoin wallet or a Multi-currency blockchain tkeyspace wallet — Your funds belong only to You and only You can use them, which eliminates the risks of third-party bankruptcy, and such a decentralized architecture can also protect against natural disasters. Given that there is no central server that can be damaged in a natural disaster, the system can work even if there are 2 nodes.

https://i.redd.it/sb6i2ladptx41.gif
In addition to force majeure situations, you protect your funds from theft and any sanctions from third parties-in our time, this is very important. The owner of Tkeycoin does not need Bank branches, does not need additional verifications, and does not need permission to use, transfer, or even transport Tkeycoin. You can easily carry $1 million worth of Tkeycoin in your pocket and even in theory not know any troubles.

https://preview.redd.it/uvw9vfyeptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=14b89acca3568fdc5eb82d986aaa2710219ced91
Besides, it is extremely convenient and safe to store even multibillion-dollar capital in Tkeycoin. Imagine that you have a lot, a lot of money, and you need a safe place to store it. Where do you apply? Of course, the Swiss Bank, Yes, but it can easily freeze your accounts and you can easily lose your savings. In recent years, many banks are actively fighting against gray non-cash funds (including offshore ones), and every month more and more legal proceedings are organized on this basis.

https://preview.redd.it/vodiuq5gptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=31ab44da4431b0159ef1213db7e37c6fd92d5b0a
The fact is that serious money, for the most part, has a gray tinge, and only a tiny fraction of billions and millions are clean for the law. That is why their owners are often called to court, subjected to pressure, forced to leave the country, and so on. If your money is stored in Tkeycoin, you will not be subjected to such pressure and will avoid the lion’s share of troubles that usually accompany accounts with many zeros.
Using peer-to-peer systems — you will not be called by a Bank Manager and require documents or a fraudster who asks for Your card number and SMS for confirmation. This is simply not the case, wallets are encrypted, and using different addresses guarantees privacy.
As for fees for transfers, there are no Visa or Mastercard payment systems, as well as additional fees that we discussed above.

How are payments made in the Tkeycoin peer-to-peer payment system?

https://i.redd.it/9ftct10iptx41.gif
As soon as you sign a transaction, it is sent to the blockchain and the miners are engaged in its confirmation, for which they take a symbolic Commission. Let’s look at an example, the key rate is $1, the transfer fee will be 0.00001970 TKEY or 0.00000174 TKEY.
0.00001970 TKEY=$0.00001970 0.00000174 TKEY=$0.00000174
Accordingly, commissions are almost zero. In Europe, on average, you will pay $15–20 for a small Bank transfer.
For example, now sending 1 million dollars to BTC, You will pay a Commission in the area of ≈3–8 dollars. Just think, 1 million dollars, without restrictions, risks, and sanctions, and most importantly, the transaction will be the available day today, and you paid an average of ≈5 dollars for the transfer.

Transactions in the Tkeycoin blockchain

Now let’s touch on the topic of how a transaction in the blockchain goes. Once you have sent a transaction, it will be available to the Recipient. The transaction takes place instantly and the User sees not” numbers on the screen”, but real funds-cryptocurrency. This is very convenient when you make any transactions and the Recipient needs to make sure that the payment came.
In the full node-there is a choice of confirmation blocks — this is the amount after which you can use the received cryptocurrency. When sending, you can select the number of confirmations:
• 2 blocks≈10 minutes • 4 block≈40 minutes • 6 blocks≈60 minutes • 12 blocks≈120 minutes • 24 blocks≈4 hours • 48 blocks≈8 hours • 144 blocks≈24 hours • 504 blocks≈3 days • 1008 blocks≈7 days
As we can see, you can also set a weekly confirmation if necessary. The minimum recommended number is 3 blocks. by default, the full node (local wallet) has 6 blocks installed. The presence of this number of confirmations ensures that Your block will not be forged and will be accepted by the network.
Each new transaction that receives network approval is sent to mempool, where it waits for miners to confirm it. When a miner takes a transaction to include it in the next block, it automatically receives the first confirmation.

Generating blocks in the TKEY network

A block in the TKEY network is generated within 6–10 minutes. the network automatically corrects the complexity and time of block formation. Thousands of transactions or a single transaction can be placed in a block.

https://i.redd.it/f9d17k8uptx41.gif
Transactions work faster in the TKEYSPACE app because we have already enabled new algorithms and this is now the fastest and most convenient way to exchange various digital currencies.

https://preview.redd.it/nnz5krdvptx41.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=fee452ae6389c8f46d97357777193ed2b10bc4bc
Anyway, using the full node is also one of the safest ways to store and send Tkeycoin cryptocurrency, and most importantly, the full node stores a full copy of the entire blockchain, which benefits the network and provides protection from information forgery.
The more popular the project becomes, the more load is placed on the network itself. For example, 10,000 transactions passed in one block that was processed quickly, while the other 10–20 transactions in another block hung for a longer time, so temporary “pits” may appear. To deal with them, we are working on implementing additional chains-separate chains that are created for cross-transactions, which ensures fast payments under heavy load.
For the global system — we get a shipment around the world in 6–10 minutes, in cross-chains in 10 seconds. In comparison with the global payment system, which processes cross — border payments within 3–5 days, this is a huge advantage. If we add liquidity to this, we will get a perfect payment system.
https://preview.redd.it/2d0uu4gxptx41.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae5f2f0bc8b7c7dedd1814eb32e97092a6330c3a
Also, you should not forget that if you did not sync with the network and sent a transaction, the transaction may hang in its memory pool and you will have to perform several actions to solve this situation. Here we must understand that syncing with the network is an important point because if you have a connection failure in the Internet Bank, the payment will also not be processed. After all, it will not be sent to a specialist for confirmation.
If you are currently experiencing any delays with transactions, this is due to the transition of CPU mining to GPU, as soon as miners switch to new mining methods, the confirmation of blocks will be consistently fast.
In conclusion: blockchain is a new technology and many terms, concepts and how it all works are still difficult for many to understand and this is normal from innovation.
In many countries, the word cryptocurrency and blockchain are synonymous and no one wants to understand the reality, most people believe that if the blockchain, it means it is related to trading on the cryptocurrency exchange. No one thinks about the real usefulness of certain solutions that will become commonplace for Us in the future.
For example, the Internet banking system dates back to the ’80s of the last century, when the Home Banking system was created in the United States. This system allowed depositors to check their accounts by connecting to the Bank’s computer via their phone. In the future, as the Internet and Internet technologies develop, banks are beginning to introduce systems that allow depositors to get information about their accounts via the Internet. For the first time, the service of transferring funds from accounts was introduced in 1994 in the United States by the Stanford Federal Credit Union, and in 1995 the first virtual Bank was created — Security First Network Bank. But, to the disappointment of the founders of the project, it failed because of strong distrust from potential customers, who, at that time, did not trust such an innovation.
Only in 2001, Bank of America became the first among all banks that provide e-banking services, the whole user base for this service exceeded 2 million customers. At that time, this figure was about 20 % of all Bank customers. And in October of the same year, 2001, and the same Bank of America took the bar in 3 million money transfers made using online banking services for a total amount of more than 1 billion US dollars. Currently, in Western Europe and America, more than 50% of the entire adult population uses e-banking services, and this figure reaches 90% among adult Internet users.
Life changes, and in the bustle of everyday work — we do not even notice how quickly all processes change.
We are experiencing a technological revolution that is inevitable.

This is an unofficial FAQ (I am in no way connected to the developer team) and it is also a work in progress. Once the community here have helped improve it, corrected mistakes and shortened + simplified unnecessarily complicated explanations, it can hopefully be made into a new stickied post by the mods.
The idea I had behind this FAQ is to provide an FAQ that uses easy to understand language, avoids technical jargon, and provides good answers that are truthful. Ideally, anyone should be able to understand it. After reading through it, the reader should have an deep understanding of the project. It does however, at the moment, require that the reader knows about some common cryptocurrency things, like blockchain and token.
So, get going by commenting and correcting what I wrote so far, or contribute new questions and explanations!

FAQ/Useful Info

The short story behind the Raiden Network

Blockchains are great, but they have limitations. Blocks are created at limited speeds, and they have limited capacity. With today's heavy usage, one has to pay more and more to have ones transfer included within a reasonable timeframe. This makes them gradually less and less suitable for ordinary purchases, as the transfer fees rise. How can cryptocurrencies ever hope to gain mass adaptation if this continues?
Luckily, a solution exists - the Raiden Network, which allows Ethereum and all other ERC-based tokens to be transferred.
The Raiden Network works by setting up payment channels between users. Channels can connect to other channels, creating a network. So even if you just have a single open channel, you can make a transfer to anyone in the network. The speed of the transfers are nearly instant, and the costs to use the network is nearly free. The creators of the network takes no cut.
Then once a large volume of these has been added up or the channel is closed, they are added to the blockchain as a single transaction.

What is the reason behind the cost advantage of Raiden?

Blockchains are of limited capacity. The max capacity of Bitcoin was reached a long time ago, and the max capacity of Ethereum is starting to near it's maximum. Once the capacity is reached, the only way to ensure a transfer or smart contract is included is to pay more to get it on. The cost skyrockets, and Bitcoin is already at $5 dollar per transfers and rising, making it unusable for any regular payments. Raiden on the other hand can handle over 60.000 times more transfers than the Ethereum blockchain - and is basically free.
In fact, you can probably imagine transactions that are smaller in value than the transaction cost of using the blockchain. Thus Raiden opens the possibility for entire new methods of business that are simply impossible on the blockchain.

What is the reason behind the speed advantage of Raiden?

To transfer something on the bitcoin blockchain and to get it validated by later blocks, takes about 90 minutes. For Ethereum, it takes several minutes. By the time the payment completes, the value of the token used could change a lot, and the information sold might be obsolete. Imagine the internet using minutes to load each page! Meanwhile, Raiden is nearly instant. Near instant transfers will be the only acceptable standard in the emerging machine-machine information economy.

What is the reason behind the privacy advantage of Raiden?

On the blockchain, the entire world knows that Alice transfered 0.005 ETH to Bob, and the exact time of when it happened. Every transaction is communicated to every participant. This has been an reason why, for instance P2P solar power companies haven't used them - it goes against EU (and other countries) laws to publicize how much power each household is consuming. As an business or individual you generally don't care about having the entire world know each individual sale you did. Collecting everything in a payment channel and then putting the total balance on the blockchain at the end of the day is better for you.

What things are we likely to see use the Raiden Network in the future?

Anything that requires speed and low fees. Especially, it is suitable for small payments in the Internet of things, where emerging machine connectivity and info derived from them could be extended into a single global marketplace.
Furthermore, it is for example, ideally suited for the small-scale solar power industry, where you can buy and sell power at much better rates than now. Also ad companies making payouts per second of watched ads, accessing paywalled content via a 'pay as you go' model, smaller businesses or temporary/seasonal businesses that can't access VISA or just wanna avoid expensive fees.
Lastly, getting near free global transfers makes possible totally new business-models that are unfathomable right now.
The Raiden team is also building raidEX, an decentralized exchange that will be on the network.

Why will other developers build upon Raiden's Network?

The system has no fees except the ones needed to incentivize nodes in the network. They will thus have no reason to create their own network since that would be more costly and time-consuming for them.
The protocol itself is open for innovation and additions are encouraged. Already, a large number of companies have committed to using it or to build apps upon it. 3rd party developers building upon it is actively encouraged, with the Raiden team having dedicated 16% of all tokens towards funding 3rd party open source projects on the Raiden Network.

Why is the Raiden Network Token worth anything?

The RDN token is used to pay and receive the small node incentivization fees that are necessary for the network to function. Since most users won't run full nodes, but a lighter app, there will be a Light Client Gateway Service Fee for them to connect to the network through a full node. Other providers of services on the network will provide pathfinding and channel monitoring services; all of these services will need to be paid in RDN.
As the network grows, the circulation and value of the RDN token will grow, however, the network itself will not become more expensive to use, since a growing number of nodes will compete for traffic through lowering their fees.
These fees are necessary for such an network to function, because running larger full nodes has a cost in effort, bandwidth and the number of tokens locked in a channel deposit.

Does the RDN token have inflation?

No. There is an fixed quantity of 100,000,000 tokens. 50% were sold in the ICO, 16% is put in a fund for 3rd party developers, 34% is retained by brainbot, the company behind Raiden.

Is it safe to use? Can somebody steal my tokens along the way?

Transfers go from one user, to the next, to the next, until the final destination. When it is confirmed that it reached it's final destination, first then all of them become valid. So none will gain any tokens from intercepting them. Additionally, locked deposited tokens creates an large cost to cheating. So it is very safe to use.

Why does setting up an channel temporary lock tokens?

The locked tokens are security against anyone cheating or trying to take the system down - if someone is trying to attack the system they would first need an insane amount of deposits and channels to do so - and they would lose the deposits in the process. The cost to attack thus becomes much, much higher than benefits gained.
Additionally, you can think of the tokens locked as virtual mining. But instead of paying or installing a GPU, you simply gain interests on the tokens locked up. This is done through receiving fees for the node being used. The fees are very small, but once the system is used by many, it will add up. Simply put; the more channels one sets up, and the more funded they are, the more throughput there will be through your node.

What is µRaiden?

µRaiden, also called 'microRaiden', is the light client (not full node) for the Raiden Network. It is easy to set up and use, and you can use it for most things you can do on the Raiden Network. However, it is not suitable for many-to-many payment setups as it requires users to lock up tokens upfront for every potential payee. Setting up an full node is way more costly and time-consuming, thus the majority will prefer this light client.

What is this I hear about Vitalik Buterin being mad at them for holding an ICO? Is this an greedy money-grab?

Vitalik proposed that instead of holding an ICO and having a Raiden token, they could secure funding for the Raiden Network through Ethereum Foundation donations, and that other ERC-20 ICO's could dedicate their unsold token towards the Raiden Network since it's such an vital project for the future of Ethereum.
However, the Raiden Network choose an ICO to give them stable, guaranteed funding. Thus making 100% sure they can hire enough developers to complete it without relying on the goodwill of others. As they are creating an free-to-use, open network, this is entirely reasonable.
And actually, since the ICO happened, Vitalik has only made positive comments about the Raiden Network and have retweeted posts about µRaiden being live on the mainnet, as an example. There simply isn't any rivalry.

Why won't Raiden be out-competed by other projects also using payment channels?

Because of the 'Network Effect'. You can probably imagine some improvements to say, Facebook, but even if you code it, it will be unsuccessful. People already have all their friends on Facebook so they have no reason to switch. This project is the most advanced in terms of development. It started many years ago and will during 2018 roll out a lot of elements to the final network. Already now, one can use it with limited functionality. And 3rd party developers already have the code, and are building their own things upon it. The Raiden Network is simply put the first of it's kind.
By the time any other similar project starts to roll out, the Raiden Network will be well-established and there will no reason for any individuals to switch even if the features of the competing network are better. Add to that, the fees to use the network is at the absolute minimum while still providing incentives to operate nodes. Any smart developer will instead build upon Raiden, adding their improvements into apps and add-ons to the ecosystem.

Why won't Raiden be made obsolete by future Ethereum upgrades?

First let's clarify, the Raiden Network is not intended to outcompete Ethereum, but to make it better and more valuable.
Secondly, the future improvements to Ethereum such as Casper, Sharding and Proof of Stake is needed anyway to increase capacity, and are vital for Ethereum to be mass adopted by the general public. The better Ethereum works, the better for Raiden. What can be said though, is that scaling Ethereum up is hard and will take years. It is also totally unfeasible that the transaction fees and speed will be able to compete with the Raiden network.

What is known about brainbot, the company behind the Raiden Network?

They are a German tech company, founded in 2001. They have offices in Mainz, Berlin and Copenhagen. They are a founding member of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, have contributed to developing Ethereum itself, something they continue to do today. They have developed other private blockchains for other enterprises and hold technical training workshops for other companies who expand into the blockchain. They are also building something called the Trustlines Network, which is an network where friends that trust each other in real life can lend money to each other, while an smart contract keeps track of amounts owed.

How does the company make money from developing the Raiden Network if they get no cut of the fees?

They have already made money from the ICO, for further development purposes. Also, they hold a large percentage (34%) of the remaining tokens, and these tokens will rise in price as their use in the Raiden Network increases. This should be reassuring to the holders of the RDN token.

UK Review of Shadow (Fortnite, Forza, Overwatch)

hey guys, This offers you a dedicated computer (Windows 10) in the cloud with:
all for £27 a month. I thought I would try it out and share my experience with anyone that is interested in gaming but doesn't want to fork out £1500+ on a gaming computer. I tested this on a Samung tablet (integrated GPU), Android phone and a desktop computer. After creating an account and downloading the client, I logged in to see the Windows 10 setup screen (What you would see when you build your own Win10 computer).
Once logged in, I tested the bandwidth and consistently got over 980mb in the speed test! I test Fornite on this tablet and was able to play on EPIC settings at 60FPS. Now in terms of input lag, I didn't notice anything of significance. I was able to log in to Shadow from my Android phone and continue the same game of Fornite.
Forza 3 was ultra smooth on the highest settings and I was able to pair my Xbox 1 controller to Shadow to play it. I tried online multiplayer gaming with Overwatch and again was able to play on highest settings with no visible lag and even won a match!
In summary, I would say
Benefits
Negatives

MinedBlock ICO : Safe Cryptocurrency Mining Service

Cryptocurrency mining has an important role in how blockchain networks work. Mining is not only a way of earning money, but miners solve critical mathematical problems, approve other people’s transactions within the network and open up new blocks. Also, mining helps to protect blockchains from hacker attacks and fraud, while guaranteeing the system’s decentralization. MinedBlock now allows investors to capitalize on resources from large-scale crypto mining operations without having to purchase, set up and maintain costly mining equipment.
About MinedBlock
MinedBlock provides mining services as a product where the firm manages all the equipment and ensures that they are functioning optimally throughout the day with low operating costs and high efficiency. This crypto mining firm is able to provide this level of dedicated service as they will launch a mining facility that emphasizes on mining the top altcoins by market capitalization to guarantee a wide range of income streams for clients. Using this large-scale mining operation, MinedBlock will assist in improving the decentralization of altcoins and also enhance its own decentralization via the international distribution of data centers.
What MinedBlock Proposes
A key principle that is driving MinedBlock is ensuring that clients get the utmost levels of transparency. Hence, the firm will be fully open regarding their plans, revenue production, and ongoing mining progress. Like dashboards and instant updates will be used to show the latest hash rates across all cryptocurrencies being mined as well as projected revenues with MBTX tokens. MinedBlock is also committed to shaping its mining projects around customer feedback, which
MBTX Token
The utility token, MBTX, will be sold during the ICO to launch the MinedBlock service. This token will act as the key for accessing and paying for MinedBlock services. However, the team was keen to not that they don many any guarantee or promise on the future price potential of this non-mintable ERC-20 token.
Mining Strategy
MinedBlock will constantly keep track of mining activities and switch between altcoins when the success rate and difficulty fluctuate. The eventual goal will be maintaining the utmost efficiency during their operations to increase profits and minimize resource wastage. The firm will also determine whether using existing mining pools or relying on its own hash rate will produce the best output.
Regarding hardware, Mineblock will deploy a mix of customized GPU mining units along with ASIC rigs. All mining hardware will be replaced and resold frequently while using different ASIC suppliers to avoid any centralization and also to enhance the diversity of clients.
For location, climate and electricity costs are primary considerations alongside the political reception of the hosting country. The first mining farm will use ASIC BCH and bitcoin mining units and it will be hosted in an Iceland facility where the electricity expenses and climate are advantageous. Meanwhile, the GPU rigs will be set up in the UK initially, before being transported to facilities in either Canada, Sweden or Iceland.

How to make your first investment in SPDR and generate revenue with masternodes and other amazing news

How to make your first investment in SPDR and generate revenue with masternodes and other amazing news
Welcome to the weekly blog section of the SPIDER VPS team, blog section where we will talk about the development of our platform. For us, it is very important to have a space dedicated to the weekly updates of our project, as we demonstrate that our commitment and our effort is real and that we want to deliver a project 100% dedicated to our community.
For this day’s section, we will talk about how you, as a young investor, will be able to invest directly in our currency and generate income with our masternodes system. We would also like to show the progression of our marketing campaign, new services and partnerships are being added everyday in order for spider coin to “reach out every corner”.We seek to be the best project of the moment. You are welcome to join us and find out how our project is right now, its development and movement in the community, which is the most important thing because we can do any kind of positive development but if we do not have the support of our community and investors we can not move forward so all our progress we owe to you , our faithful and big family.

First investments in SPDR

First we’ll talk about why it’s a good option for you to invest in our project. We are currently among the 20 best masternode coins of the moment as we have a current volume of 24 hours of more than 23.70 BTC. Also in such a short time we were listed in coinmarketcap. This is a great joy for us because many know that being on the list in such a short time in coinmarketcap is a challenge that only a few can achieve. To list a project on CMC they must have a very good volume of trade because CMC does a very deep study to know if a currency can be listed with them and they listed SPDR almost immediately showing that it is a project worth believing in and investing in. This makes us understand that we have a growing community that believes in us and fully trusts that we are a project with a very strong base. With such a large percentage of currencies closed, we have a very good decrease in ROI that will give more price and stability to our currency, in just fifteen days we saw how the price of our currency doubled compared to its value, which is amazing. I will show it in the following graph, because the young investors to whom this post is addressed need to know why it is a good idea to invest in us and what are the great advantages of doing so… We know we still have a long way to go, but we work day by day constantly refining our platform and telling only the truth to our community.

SPDR has been a very innovative concept because you can acquire it thanks to its hybrid algo that has mining POW and POS staking/masternode system which means that investors can choose either to mine their coins with their Gpu’s or stake them/run masternodes by themselves or by using our trusted partners that offer shared masternode services and earn a passive income from a coin in constant growth..
As a second point we will talk about how these shared masternodes work because they are the most used at moment. You do not need to have all the collateral to acquire rewards because you can invest in what you want and buy a seat available to duplicate those coins to get to have your own node in this way but this is what we will talk about. Then, as I said, let’s talk about the fact that SPDR was able to list in an exchange very early on, which is also amazing since part of the pre-sale was done in CREX24. Our team was very assertive in listing with this great exchange because it is very respectable nowadays, it has a daily volume of 192 BTC and by the way our currency is in the number one position, after a while we decided that it was time to expand and we needed another exchange so we chose CryptoBridge which has a current volume of 52 BTC and has earned the affection of many for its great system together with the chain of blocks of Bitshares ,our coin here is ranked in the top 10.

Every day more and more partners join our project so this time we will talk about all the shared masternode services which have brought many benefits to the projects because they do something that is a true for many masternode investors which is that not many of them know the technical parts of how to host a masternode, and with those platforms they can do it for a percentage cost of their hosted currencies or simply because they are investors who want to expand their portfolio and want to invest in many currencies. Many of this services(if they agree with the coin teams) run instant nodes. What is an istant node? Basically it is a masternode running in the background which gives instant rewards to all members that join a shared pool. If there are for example 3500 coins in the pool but no istant node running then all users will get staking rewards only. If there is an instant node running than all users will get 50% of masternode rewards shared between them.

This is great news that we have in mind and that will be a great boom! not everything is Proof of Stake we also have great news for our investors who work at Proof of Work! We want to announce our great partnership with the AIOMiner platform which we are hoping that in a few days this will become official we have already established with them our enlistment, we also want to work day by day for our miners POW! but for those people who do not know AIOMiner what this is all about? mining software in one GPU for Windows in which you can control your mining from anywhere that is automatically synchronized that generates the best return using WhatToMine.com and make this more profitable for you. They also have a system that we all know that in mining there are times of day that are usually more expensive so it will be configured depends on performance to offer you a better return but the best of all this is that AIOMiner does not charge any commission because each currency is yours but the best of all is that you have a service 24 hours a day support so you do not lose time and generate more revenue because time is money.

WhatToMine has added SPDR to its list Crypto coins mining profit calculator

For us it is a pride to be listed on this great page because for a long time it has been the excellence for the POW miners that day by day use it to calculate which is the best option of profitability to be able to obtain a better profit of quality coins, what do I mean by this? WhatToMine does an extensive study to determine if a coin is applicable to your platform and for the joy of us we have passed this test and we are in, already for our POW miners may know that they will have the option to draw their own conclusions if mining our coin is good and also this will attract new miners to our network which is something amazing that our family grows so if you are a POW miner please run and do the review and calculate that our coin is your best option. The amazing thing about this page is that it is very accurate and calculates every detail that is presented in a POW mining from the FEES to the cost of energy something very excellent.

Thought experiment: A Special Kind Of Bitcoin Fork - Or: A New Altcoin Building On Top Of The Bitcoin Blockchain (From Block #n) Instead Of Starting A New Blockchain From Scratch

Given the split Bitcoin community w.r.t. block size, here is an idea:
What if a team of developers decides to fork Bitcoin (you could also call it "create a new Altcoin on top of Bitcoin blockchain") in the following way:
  1. Fork the code of bitcoin-core and change it as little as possible, with only the changes below, as follows:
  2. Starting with the first block after block number 431424 (or any other clearly pre-defined block number that is a multiple of 2016), the "NewBitcoin" starts to fork away from the legacy Bitcoin blockchain.
  3. The block size limit is no more fixed to 1 MB, but follows another clearly-defined schedule or algorithm (t.b.d.). The TX size however remains limited to 1 MB to avoid excessive validation times (growing non-linearly with size) for artificially long transactions.
  4. "NewBitcoin" clients/wallets follow address patterns 2xxxxx or 4xxxxx instead of 1xxxxx and 3xxxxx to avoid that users unintentionally confuse old with new Bitcoin when making transactions.
  5. The TX structure gets slightly modified (e.g. change of one bit in the header or a similarly small change is enough) to be entirely incompatible between old and new Bitcoin. This ensures that a TX signed for one chain canNOT (un)intenionally be injected into the other chain and create an unintended transaction there.
  6. The PoW hash algorithm is changed to another algorithm that is more suited to CPU/GPU than to ASIC. An example would be the kind of hash algorithm used by Vertcoin (for the first 2016 blocks after the fork a special initial difficulty adjustment algorithm can be implemented to avoid too long or too short block times in this initial phase). Edit: After various replies in this thread and reconsidering pros&cons, I am not so sure any more that Standard-hardware-CPU-centric mining is the best. Reason: Over-night-botnet-51% attack can be a real threat and should not be "talked away" by "closing ideological eyes". Instead, I am split now between "Same PoW, merged mining" and "different PoW, but still, in principle, 'ASICable'".
  7. Create a written piece of document in plain English that clearly describes the principles that the NewBitcoin is built upon w.r.t. money supply, block size strategy, hash algorithm, decentralization and other important base characteristics. Register this piece of "Coinstitution" into block 431425 (=first block after the fork) of the NewBitcoin blockchain, so that no future developers can easily divert from these guiding (and binding) principles.
Introducing such a fork would have the following advantages:
The only negative point I see is that legacy miners that have invested in ASIC hardware will loose some profit when Legacy_Bitcoin's market valuation decreases after the fork, because they cannot use their same hardware to mine NewBitcoin blocks due to the different hash algo. But in the end, there is nothing those miners could do about it - anybody is free to create and fork free software as desired.
Any thoughts? Would you welcome the creation of such a Bitcoin fork as outlined in this thought experiment, and why/why not? What is your expectation/prediction w.r.t. the eco-system, if this happened? Which Bitcoin fork would become more valuable long-term, and why? Or would both coexist sustainably, and for what reasons/applications?
I am wondering why this kind of "fork" has not been discussed before. It seems to me a natural way to solve the current stagnation of Bitcoin and keep stake holders on all sides happy. As I said above, this fork could also be considered a new "Altcoin", but it would be the first altcoin that does not start a new blockchain from scratch but builds on-top of Bitcoin's blockchain and thereby makes all legacy Bitcoin stakeholders also stakeholders of this new coin, and it shares the intrinsic value that Bitcoin's blockchain has accumulated.

MinedBlock

Mega FAQ (Or: Please come here for your questions first)

Qbundle Guide (Step by step setup & Bootstrap) https://burstwiki.org/wiki/QBundle
1( I want to mine or activate My account. Where do find the multiple coins?
You only need 1, an outgoing transaction or reward reassignment will set the public key. Get them from:
https://www.reddit.com/burstcoinmining/comments/7q8zve/initial_burstcoin_requests/
Or (Faucet list)
https://faucet.burstpay.net/ (if this is empty, come back later)
http://faucet.burst-coin.es
Or
https://forums.getburst.net/c/new-members-introductions/getting-started-initial-burstcoin-requests
2( I bought coins on Bittrex and want to move to my new wallet, but can't. Why?
Bittrex will only send to accounts with a public key (not a Burst requirement) so see number 1 and either set the name on the account (IF you will not mine) or set the reward recipient to the pool. Either action will enable the account and allow for transfers from Bittrex.
3( I sent coins from Poloniex/anywhere to Bittrex and they don’t show up after a considerable time. Why?
You need to set an unencrypted message on the transaction, informing Bittrex which account to send the funds to (this is in the directions on Bittrex). Did you do this? Contact Bittrex support with all the details and eventually you will get your funds.
4( How much can I make on Burst?
https://explore.burst.cryptoguru.org/tool/calculate
Gives you an average over time assuming a few things like: Average luck/100% uptime/no overlapping/fees on pool/good plot scan time (<20 seconds) if you do not have all of these, you may not see that number.
5( If I use SSD’s would I make more money?
No, it’s 95% capacity and 5% scan time that determine success. More plot area = better deadlines = better chance of forging a block, or better rates from a pool.
6( What is ‘solo’ and ‘pool’ (wasn’t his name Chewbacca?)
Solo is where you attempt to ‘forge’ (mine) a block by yourself; you get 100% of the block reward and fees. But you only receive funds if you forge, no burst for coming in second place.
Pools allow a group of miners to ‘pool’ together their resources and when a miner wins, they give the pool the winnings (this is done by the reward assignment you completed earlier), it is then divided according to different percentages and methods and burst is sent out according to pool rules (minimum pay-out, time, etc.)
7( I have been mining for 2 days and my wallet doesn’t show any Burst WHY?
Mining solo: it is win-or-lose, nothing in between, and wining is luck and plot size. Pool mining: because it costs 1 burst to send burst, the pools have either a time requirement (every X days) or a minimum amount (100 burst +) so you need to research your pool. Some pools allow for you to set the limit (cryptoGuru and similar) to be met before sending
8( How do I see what I have pending?
On CryptoGuru, based pools, it’s the ‘Pending (burst)’ column, other pools, look for the numbers next to your burst ID. One is Paid and the other pending.
9( I’m part of a pool and I forged a block, but I didn’t recieve the total value of the block, why?
A pool has 2 basic numbers that denote the pay-out method, in the format ‘XX-XX’ (i.e. 50-50) The first number is the % paid to the block forger (miner) and the second is the retained value, which is paid to historic ‘shares’ (or, past blocks that the pool didn’t win, but had a miner that was ‘close’ to winning with a good submitted deadline)
Examples of pools:
0-100 (good for <40TB)
20-80 (30-80TB)
50-50 (60-200TB)
80-20 (150-250)
100-0 (solo mine, 150+ TB)
Please note that there is an overlap as this is personal preference and just guidance; a higher historical share value means a smoother pay-out regime, which some people prefer. If fees are not factored in, or are the same on different pools, the pay-out value will be the same over a long enough period.
10( Is XXX model of hard drive good? Which one do you recommend?
CHEAP is best. If you have 2 new hard drives, both covered by warranty, get the one with the lowest cost per TB (expressed as $/TB , calculated by dividing the cost by the number of terabytes) because plot size is KING,
11( How many drives can I have on my machine?
For best performance, you can have up to 2 drives per thread (3 on a new fast AVX2 CPU). So that quad-core core-2-quad can have up to 8 drives, but a more modern i7 with 4 cores + hyper threading can squeeze 8 * 3 or 24 drives. (Performance while scanning will suffer)
12( Can I game while I mine?
Some people have done so, but you cannot have the ‘maximum’ number of drives and play games generally.
13( Can I mine Burst and GPU mine other coins?
Yes, if you CPU Mine Burst.
14( I’m GPU plotting Burst and GPU mining another coin, my plots are being corrupted, why?
My advice is dedicating a GPU to either mining or plotting, don’t try to do both.
15( What is a ‘plot’?
A plot is a file that contains Hashes, these hashes are used to mine burst. A plot is tied to an account, but they can be created (with the same account ID) on other machines and connected back to your miner(s).
16( Where can I trade/buy/sell Burst?
A list of exchanges is maintained on https://www.reddit.com/burstcoin/ (on the right, ‘Exchanges’ tab) the biggest at the moment are Bittrex and Poloniex, some offer direct Fiat-to-Burst purchase (https://indacoin.com for example)
17( Do I have to store my Burst off the exchange?
No, but it’s safer from hackers who target exchanges, if you cannot guarantee the safety or security of your home computer from Trojans etc, then it might be best to leave on an exchange (but enable 2FA security on your account PLEASE!)
18( What security measures can I take to keep my coin safe?
When you create an account, sign out and back in to your wallet (to make sure you have copied the pass phrase correctly) and keep multiple copies of the key (at least one physically printed or written down and in a safe place, better in 2 places) do not disclose the passphrase to anyone. Finally use either a local wallet or a trusted web wallet (please research before using any web wallet)
19( How can I help Burst?
Run a wallet, which will act as a node (or if you’re a programmer, contact the Dev team Bring attention to burst (without ‘shilling’ or trying to get people to buy) And help translate into your local language
Be a productive member of the community and contribute experience and knowledge if you can, or help others get into Burst.
20( Will I get coins on the fork(s) and where will they be?
There will be no new coin, and no new coins to be given/air dropped etc, the forks are upgrades to burst and there will not be a ‘classic’ or ‘new’ burst.
21( Will I need to move my Burst off of the exchange for the fork?
No, your transactions are on the block chain, which will be used on the fork, they will be visible after the move; nothing will need to be done on your side.
22( Where can I read about the progress of Burst and news in general on the community?
There is no finer place than https://www.burstcoin.ist/
23( What are the communities for Burst and the central website?
Main website: https://www.burst-coin.org/
Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/burstcoin and https://www.reddit.com/burstcoinmining/
Burstforum.net: https://www.burstforum.net/
Getburst forum: https://forums.getburst.net/

(these are the forums that are known to be supporting the current Dev Team)
Other ways to talk to the community:
Discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/RPhpjVv
Telegram (General): https://t.me/burstcoin
Telegram (Mining): https://t.me/BurstCoinMining
24( When will Burst partner up with a company?
Burst is a currency, the USD does not ‘partner up’ with a company, the DEV team will not partner up and give over to special interests.
25( Why is the DEV team anonymous?
They prefer anonymity, as it allows them to work without constant scrutiny and questions unless they wish to engage, plus the aim is for Burst to become a major contender, and this brings issues with security. They will work and produce results, they owe you nothing and if you cannot see the vision they provide then please do not ‘invest’ for short term gain.
26( When moon/Lambo/$100/make me rich?
My crystal ball is still broken, come back to the FAQ later for answer (seriously, this is a coin to hold, if you want to day-trade, good luck to you)
27( How can I better educate myself and learn about Dymaxion?
Read about the Dymaxion here: https://www.reddit.com/burstcoin/wiki/dymaxion
28( My reads are slow, why?
There are many reasons for this, if your computer has a decent spec it’s likely due to USB3 hub issues, or plugging into a USB2 hub, but other reasons can be multiple plots in the same folder, but it’s best to visit the mining subreddit. They can help more than an simple FAQ https://www.reddit.com/burstcoinmining/
29( I have a great idea for Burst (not proof of stake related)?
Awesome! Please discuss with the DEV team on discord https://discordapp.com/invite/RPhpjVv
(Please be aware that this is a public forum, you need to find who to ask/tell)
30( I have a great idea for Burst (Proof of stake related)?
No. if you want a POS, find a POS coin. On the tangle which is being implemented a POS/POW/POC coin can be created, but BURST will always be POC mined. You are welcome to implement a proof of stake coin on this!
31( Will the Dev team burn any coins?
Burst is not an ICO, so any coins will need to be bought to be burnt. You are welcome to donate, but the DEV team have no intention of burning any coins, or increasing the coin cap.
32( When will there be an IOS wallet?
IOS wallet is completed; we are waiting for it to go on the app store. Apple is the delaying factor.
33( Why do overlapping plots matter?
Plots are like collections of lottery tickets (and if only one ticket could win). Having 2 copies is not useful, and it means that you have less coverage of ‘all’ the possible numbers. It’s not good, avoid.
34( My local wallet used to run, I synchronised it before and now it says ‘stopped’. when I start it, it stops after a few seconds, what should I do?
I suggest that you change the database type to portable MariaDB (on Qbundle, at the top, ‘Database’ select, ‘change database’) and then re-import the database from scratch (see 35)
35( Synchronising the block chain is slow and I have the patience of a goldfish. What can I do?
On Qbundle , ‘Database’ select ‘Bootstrap chain’ and make sure the CryptoGuru repository is selected, then ‘start Import’ this will download and quickly stuff the local database (I suggest Portable MariaDB, see 34) (lol, loop)
36( What will the block reward be next month/will the block rewards run out in 6 months?
https://www.ecomine.earth/burstblockreward/ Rewards will carry on into 2026, but transaction fees will be a bigger % by then, and so profitable mining will continue.
37( How can I get started with Burst (wallet/mining/everything) and I need it in a video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJLhw37Lh_8 Watch and be enlightened.
38( Can I mine on multiple machines with the same account?
Yes, if you want to pool mine this can be done (but be prepared for small issues like reported size being incorrect. Just be sure to keep question 33 in mind.)
39( Why do some of my drives take forever to plot?
Most likely they are SMR drives, it’s best to plot onto another SSD and then move the finished plot/part of a plot across to the SMR drive as this is much quicker. SMR drives are fine on the read, just random writes that are terrible.
So plot an SMR drive quickly, plot to a non SMR or better still SSD drive, in as big a chunk as possible (fewer files better) and move. a version of Xplotter, called Splotter, can do this easily.
https://github.com/NoParamedic/SPlotter
40( I have a great idea; why not get listed on more exchanges!!
Exchanges list coins because of 2 reasons:
  1. Clients email and REQUESTING Burst and provide details like:
    i. https://www.burst-coin.org/information-for-exchanges
  2. The coin pays (often A LOT, seriously we’ve been asked for 50 BTC)
I suggest you speak with your exchange and ask ‘when will they offer Burst?’
41( Do you have a roadmap?
https://www.burst-coin.org/roadmap
42( Why is the price of Burst going up/down/sideways/looping through time?
The price of burst is still quite dependent upon Bitcoin, meaning that if Bitcoin gains, the value of Burst gains, if Bitcoin drops then Burst also drops. If there is news for Burst then we will see something independent of Bitcoin moving. Variations can be because of people buying in bulk or selling in bulk. There are also ‘pump and dump’ schemes that we detest, that can cause spikes in price that have nothing to do with news or Bitcoin, just sad people taking advantage of others.
43( Where is the best place to go with my mining questions?
https://www.reddit.com/burstcoinmining/
or https://t.me/BurstCoinMining
44( What hardware do you advise me to buy, is this computer good?
See question 43 for specific questions on hardware, it depends on so many variables. The ‘best’ in my opinion is a 36 bay Supermicro storage server, usually they have dual 6-core CPU’s and space for 36 drives. No USB cables, plotting and mining monster, anything else, DYOR.
45( Where do you buy your hard drives?
I have bought most from EBay in job lots, and some refurbished drives with short warranties. Everything else I have bought, from Amazon.
46( Can I mine on my Google drive/cloud based storage?
In short: no. If you want to try, and get to maybe 1 TB and then find that your local connection isn’t fast enough, or that shortly after, your account is blocked for various reasons. Please be my guest.
47( Can I mine on my NAS?
Some you can mine with the NAS (if it can run the miner, it can scan locally) but generally they’re not very fast. good for maybe 16 TB? Having a plot on a NAS and mining from another computer depends on the network speed between the NAS and scanning computer. I believe you can scan about 8 TB (maybe a bit more) and keep the scan times to within acceptable, but YMMV.
48( How can I set up a node?
No need to set up a node, just set up a wallet (version 2.0.4) or Qbundle (2.2) and it will do the rest
49( Are the passphrases secured?
I’ll leave the effort to a few people to show how secure a 12-word passphrase is: https://burstforum.net/topic/4766/the-canary-burst-early-warning-system Key point: brute forcing it will be around 13,537,856,339,904,134,474,012,675,034 years.
50( I logged into my account (maybe with a different burst ID) and see no balance!!
I have dealt with this very issue multiple times, and there are only 3 options:
  1. You have typed in the password incorrectly
  2. You have copy-pasted the password incorrectly
  3. You are trying to log into a ‘local wallet’ which the block chain has not finished updating
The last one generally leaves the burst ID the same, but old balances will show. No, this is not a security problem, and yes, windows loves to add spaces after the phrase you enter when copied, and that space is important in getting to your account.
51( Are there channels for my language?
Telegram:
Spanish: https://t.me/burstcoin_es
German: https://t.me/Burstcoinde
Italian: https://t.me/BurstCoinItalia
Forum:
Spanish: https://burst-coin.es/index.php/forum/index
Discord:

Bulgarian: https://discord.gg/r4uzTd
(there are others, please contact me to put up)
52( I am mining in a pool, and it says that my effective capacity is lower than I actually have, why?
  1. If you've not been mining for >48 hours, or just added additional capacity, it will take time.
  2. The value fluctuates (normally, +-5% but can be up to 10% at times)
  3. Read on the ‘Quick info’ tab about adjusting your deadline to compensate for changes i. revisit once a month for best results
  4. If you have overlapping plots it will also be lower so be aware of this (see question 33)
53( What pool should I join?
First of all, read question 9, after you have understood that it depends on the size (and how patient you are) select from the following list: https://www.ecomine.earth/burstpools/
54( What miner to use?
I use Blago’s miner, there are many out there but Blago’s works for me on CPU mining, it can be found in Qbundle.
55( What Wallet to use (I use windows)?
Qbundle: https://github.com/PoC-Consortium/Qbundle/releases/ guide: https://burstwiki.org/wiki/QBundle
56( What Wallet to use (Linux)?
https://package.cryptoguru.org/ for Debian and Ubuntu, for Mac. read:
https://www.ecomine.earth/macoswalletinstallguide/
57( Will i need to 'replot' after POC2 (second fork) happens?
No, there will be a tool which will optimise, but it is not CPU intensive (it basically re-shuffles your plot) and is just IO intensive. You do not need to replot.
TurboPlotter and https://github.com/PoC-Consortium/Utilities/tree/mastepoc1to2.pl are tools that will/can be used to actuate optimization, but PLEASE wait with optimization until after the hard fork.
58( Will the transaction fee always be 1 burst?
No, dynamic fees are coming in the next fork.

Wanted a GTX1080 but only had a budget of £27...

I wanted to ascend but I dont have the money to pay £1k upfront. I came across this service called "Shadow". This offers you a dedicated computer (Windows 10) in the cloud with:
all for £27 a month. I thought I would try it out and share my experience with anyone that is interested in gaming but doesn't want to fork out £1000+ on a gaming computer.
Benefits
Negatives

Is mining Gridcoin worth it if you don't have a dedicated machine?

I signed up for WCG to do the [email protected] and [email protected] projects like 10 years ago or so, but I didn't have the resources for a dedicated machine, so I just ran it in the background of my regular PC at the time. I recently upgraded my gaming PC and I remembered that I used to do WCG stuff and decided to reinstall the client and poking around, I discovered Gridcoin.
Is earning Gridcoin viable if I'm not dedicated my entire system to it 24/7? I'd still like to contribute to [email protected] (1 and/or 2) as it's a cause that's personally important to me, but I'm otherwise open to contributing to other projects for earning. Basically, if I'm just running it in the background of my gaming PC while I have it on during the day, is that worth earning anything? Or am I kind of running at a loss because of the amount of power I'd end up drawing for cooling and whatnot because it's not a dedicated lower-power system?
I have no experience with cryptocurrency really, never hopped on the bitcoin train, but I think earning cryptocurrency for distributed computing projects that actually contribute to scientific research is really cool.
FWIW, specs are as follows (running a mini-ATX board so OCing isn't really an option):
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.20 GHz (6 core)
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 16GB, 2400 speed
PSU: 650 watts

InvestInBlockchain - Cryptocurrencies in the Top 100 With Working Products

Bitcoin (BTC)

📷
Bitcoin is the cryptocurrency that started it all back in 2009, after the global financial crisis and subsequent bailouts of banks left many people disenfranchised with fiat currency and outdated, insecure financial infrastructure.
Today, Bitcoin is being used for peer-to-peer payments across the globe. More than that, though, it is leading the way towards a future in which financial technology is trustless, secure, resilient, and censorship resistant. Without Bitcoin, this list would not exist.

Ethereum (ETH)

📷
The platform that brought smart contracts to the blockchain, spurring a minor revolution in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Before Ethereum, Bitcoin and its transaction-oriented design was the central focus of most blockchain projects.
After Ethereum, teams saw the value of decentralized apps (dapps) and smart contracts, and shifted their focus to compensate.
Vitalik Buterin’s Ethereum whitepaper was released in late 2013. The project itself was announced January 2014, with a crowdsale the following July. The system officially went live in July 2015.
Since then, hundreds of businesses, individuals, and blockchain projects have adopted Ethereum as their main smart contracts platform.

Ripple (XRP)

📷
Ripple is focused primarily on one thing: fast and cheap international transactions.
Current banking infrastructure has failed to evolve in the 21st century, such that it still takes 3-5 business days on average for an international transfer to be processed. With just 4 second transaction times and at a fraction of the cost of a wire transfer, Ripple’s working product is already impacting the banking sector.
The big knock against Ripple is that its native token, XRP, is completely unnecessary. Indeed, driving adoption of Ripple’s banking solutions is far easier than getting real-world adoption for XRP.
If you’re interested in seeing a discussion about how XRP adoption will occur, you might find this reddit thread worth a read. Meanwhile, all of us will just have to wait and see whether XRP adoption strategies ultimately come to fruition.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

📷
Bitcoin Cash was created in 2017 when the first ever hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain took place. The split was the result of Bitcoin’s 1MB blocks filling up. Transaction speeds were declining, fees were increasing, and it became clear to the community that the current model wasn’t sustainable for scaling.
In a move that still causes cryptocurrency fights to this day, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash soon emerged as separate but similar projects. BCH has 8x the block size of BTC, giving it roughly 8x the transaction throughput. Its fees and transaction times are much faster, as predicted.
Learn more about Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash.

Stellar (XLM)

📷
The Stellar project and its associated Lumens (XLM) token was forked from the Ripple protocol in 2014. Stellar has come into its own since then, providing a blockchain connection service for fiat transactions between banks, payment systems, and people. Stellar is fast and reliable, and it works with practically no fees for the end-user.
Stellar is a payments system, meaning its job is to move money as efficiently as possible. Partnerships with banks and financial institutions were key in evaluating its status, as was the ability to actually send money using the network.
Several non-profits and commercial entities have agreed to use Stellar as part of their financial infrastructure. Recently, the team partnered with IBM and KlickEx to facilitate cross-border transactions in the South Pacific and announced an affiliate with Keybase to streamline international transactions.
Stellar also has projects being built on its network by major established entities. IBM’s blockchain division is using XLM for their payments infrastructure, for example, and the Veridium startup is working with both organizations to tokenize its carbon credits market.

Litecoin (LTC)

📷
Litecoin is a Bitcoin fork that was created in 2011 by Charlie Lee as a cheaper and faster (2.5 minute block time instead of 10) alternative to Bitcoin. This is accomplished predominantly because Litecoin uses a Scrypt hashing algorithm instead of the SHA-256 algorithm used by Bitcoin. It’s common to hear Litecoin called “digital silver” to Bitcoin’s “digital gold,” and in reality Litecoin does not really expand upon the functionality of Bitcoin in a significant way so much as it makes different tradeoffs.
That being said, it does succeed in being cheaper and faster to use than BTC, which has led to it being accepted by hundreds of merchants and thus making Litecoin one of the most widely used cryptocurrencies for digital payments.

Tether (USDT)

📷
Tether is an unusual project. Whereas most cryptocurrencies rise and fall in value, Tether was designed to stay the same, fixed at a 1:1 ratio with the U.S. dollar.
This allows users to store, send, and receive digital currencies across platforms without incurring significant losses due to value fluctuations.
The Tether stable coin sounds straightforward, but the project isn’t without controversy. USDT is supposedly backed by real USD sitting in a bank account. But in which account? Who controls it? And is Tether being used to manipulate the value of Bitcoin? It’s all part of the Tether controversy.

Monero (XMR)

📷
Released in 2014 as a fork of Bytecoin, Monero has since made a name for itself as the most popular privacy coin on the market.
Most cryptocurrencies offer little in the form of anonymity. Monero was built for privacy from the ground-up, featuring stealth addresses, ring signatures, and complete coin fungibility. All of this adds up to a near-perfect cloak of anonymity, allowing Monero users to conduct transactions without exposing their identity.
Monero has had steady growth over the years thanks to a dedicated team of developers and an active community. The project continues to evolve with new privacy features and improved transaction security.

NEO (NEO)

📷
NEO was founded in 2014 as one of the earliest smart contract platforms, giving it a wide breadth of possible functionality. The platform’s strongest use case is digitizing traditional assets so that they can be easily tracked and exchanged on the blockchain.
NEO is also well-known as the “Chinese Ethereum,” and the fact that it is a Chinese-based project does seem to make Chinese dapp developers somewhat more likely to build on top of it than other platforms.
In fact, NEO has already supported dozens of ICOs and remains one of the predominant platforms for supporting smart contracts and dapps.

Binance Coin (BNB)

📷
Binance Coin is an exchange token used to reduce trading fees on the Binance platform.
Users can opt to pay exchange, listing, and withdrawal fees using BNB and enjoy as much as a 50% discount on all charges. This turns out to be a powerful incentive for purchasing and holding BNB, as what trader doesn’t enjoy saving money on transactions?
Binance Coin is an ERC-20 token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. Its purpose is extremely limited, but because such a vast number of Binance users transact with it every day, it qualifies as a working and active product.

Zcash (ZEC)

📷
Zcash is another immensely popular privacy coin that often cracks the top 20 cryptocurrencies. It uses the tagline “internet money” and promises to fully protect the privacy of transactions with zero-knowledge cryptography.
Zcash provides anonymity by shielding transactions on the blockchain, preventing anyone from seeing the sender, recipient, or value of each transaction. The technology is so effective the Ethereum team is investigating it to enable anonymous transactions on their network.
Zcash has grown in leaps and bounds in 2018. The dev team published a roadmap through the year 2020, which includes a major features upgrade in the October 2018 Sapling release. Coinbase is also considering listing Zcash, which is a huge boost for any cryptocurrency.

Qtum (QTUM)

📷
Qtum is a smart contracts platform similar to Ethereum, only with a stronger focus on value transfers and decentralized apps. It’s meant to be something of a hybrid between Bitcoin and Ethereum, allowing businesses to build smart contracts on the platform or just focus on cryptocurrency transactions.
Qtum launched in March 2017, and dashed straight to the top. The initial offering sold over $10 million in tokens after just 90 minutes. The project differentiated itself by providing a rare Proof-of-Stake smart contracts platform designed to compensate for some of Ethereum’s shortcomings, including lack of compatibility for mobile devices.
Qtum released its mainnet in September 2017, opening the doors to a fully functional smart contract and dapps platform. Several projects already have an established presence on the network. One of the more exciting ones is Space Chain, which aims to create an open-source satellite network anyone can use for data transmission, storage, and development.

0x Protocol (ZRX)

📷
0x Protocol has one of the most important working products in the entire Ethereum ecosystem. It is a permissionless, open-source protocol that facilitates trustless exchanges of Ethereum tokens through relayers and dapps that build on top of the protocol.
Not only has 0x been providing this functionality for over a year now, but they’ve been working to expand the protocol functionality significantly since that initial launch. In 0x protocol 2.0 and beyond, it will be possible to trade tokens built on standards besides ERC-20, including non-fungible ERC-721 tokens.
In a market full of scams and vaporware, 0x’s valuable contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem have made it one of the best performing cryptocurrencies of 2018.

Bytecoin (BCN)

📷
Bytecoin is another popular privacy-focused cryptocurrency with a strong community and user base. Transactions on the Bytecoin blockchain are instantaneous, untraceable, unlinkabe, and resistant to blockchain analysis.
Bytecoin has been around for a long time now, with contributions to the project beginning in 2012. However, that hasn’t stopped the project’s developers from continuously improving the product.
The recently updated Bytecoin roadmap has a hard fork for a consensus update scheduled for August 31, as well as numerous initiatives for community growth constantly in the works.

Decred (DCR)

📷
Founded in 2015 by former Bitcoin developers, Decred’s most important working product is its solution to Bitcoin’s biggest problem. No, not scalability… blockchain governance.
You see, early Bitcoiners have been debating block size limitations and the efficacy of other scalability solutions like the Lightning Network for years, even though the problem of scalability really only became discussed in the mainstream in 2017.
With its community-based governance model and strong adherence to the core ethos of decentralization, Decred is built to evolve and improve rapidly. That means that it’s equipped to handle not only the scalability problem today, but other big problems that might arise down the line.
When you have poor governance, it is an arduous process making any upgrades to a project, no matter how necessary they may seem to the majority of coin holders. Decred’s best-in-class and still improving governance model give it an intriguing case to be a leader in digital payments for a long time to come.

BitShares (BTS)

📷
BitShares aims to improve worldwide access to financial services via blockchain. The tagline “assist the unbanked” summarizes the project nicely. In practice, this translates to BitShares operating as a decentralized exchange, one that was built from the ground-up to avoid scalability issues and keep transaction fees low.
BitShares was launched in 2014 by Dan Larimer, who would then go on to take a lead development role in both EOS and Steem.
The current state of the project offers decentralized asset exchange, price-stable cryptocurrencies, recurring and scheduled payments, user-issued assets, and more, all available through a decentralized system powered by delegated PoS consensus.

Steem (STEEM)

📷
Steem is the cryptocurrency that powers Steemit, a decentralized social media platform that incentivizes user participation through micropayments. Think of it like Reddit, only instead of just upvoting or downvoting posts, users can actually reward creators for their effort.
Steem is a functional cryptocurrency used exclusively on the Steemit platform. That gives it something of a limited use, but seeing as how Steemit is live and boasts a few hundred thousand users, it’s hard to argue it isn’t a working product. Some people may even be earning money using Steemit.

Siacoin (SIA)

📷
Siacoin is one of the leaders in decentralized cloud storage, a more secure and affordable alternative to centralized cloud storage solutions like Amazon S3, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, and others.
Sia 1.0 was launched in June 2016, and has achieved considerable adoption since then. With the $200 billion cloud storage market widely seen as one of the spaces most ripe for blockchain disruption, Sia has gotten off to a nice start by offering a functional decentralized cloud storage platform for over 2 years.

Augur (REP)

📷
Augur is one of the most recently launched products on this list. The platform mainnet went live in early July 2018, bringing to fruition almost 4 years of post-ICO work.
Augur is a decentralized prediction market that uses game theory to generate crowd-sourced insights. Essentially, thousands of people working together have shown the remarkable ability to forecast outcomes.
With Augur, users can put REP tokens as bets on these predictions, essentially creating a form of “useful social gambling.”
Augur’s release was a long time coming. The project started as far back as 2014, nearly a year before the ICO. The creators cite the complexity of Augur’s smart contracts as the chief cause of the lengthy development time.
Regardless of its past, Augur is now a live product with a bright future. Over 300 predictions have already been made, with the largest winning payout hitting $20,000. Betting volume even exceeded $1 million within the first weeks of launch.

Basic Attention Token (BAT)

📷
Basic Attention Token was one of the easiest projects to include on this list. That’s because its working product, Brave Browser, has more than 3 million active usersbetween its mobile and desktop platforms, making it one of the most widely-used working products in the blockchain space.
Not only is Brave Browser functional, it’s the only browser on the market that has built-in ad-blocking and tracker blocking, making the browsing experience both cleaner and faster than what you get with other popular browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
The future remains uncertain for the BAT token itself, as its adoption depends heavily on whether or not advertisers buy-in to the Brave model, as well as how willing Brave users are to be shown relevant ads and to pass along the BAT they earn to content publishers.
Given Brave’s success in just a short time since being launched, though, the future does appear promising for BAT.

Nano (XRB)

📷
Nano (formerly RaiBlocks) is all about scalability. The coin has nearly instant transactions with a completely fee-less structure. The platform accomplishes this by creating a unique blockchain for every account, preventing bloat and allowing for practically infinite scalability.
Nano’s motto of “do one thing and do it well” has gotten them a long way. The team doesn’t have to deal with scaling or slowdown issues thanks to the underlying structure of the project, allowing its roadmap to focus on wallet updates and outreach. This is one cryptocurrency that’s essentially feature complete, and it has been for some time.

Golem (GNT)

📷
Golem has set out to be the Airbnb of computing resources. Have you ever needed extra GPU power to finish up a render? How about processing scientific data similar to the [email protected] project?
Even if you don’t have those needs, a lot of groups do. Golem aims to provide easy access to those resources, all of which are rentable for a small cryptocurrency fee.
Golem hit the mainnet launch button in April 2018, and was met with a fair amount of fanfare. One of the main goals for the feature-incomplete launch was to push the product out so real users could put it to work.
The team was interested in strengthening their interactions with end users to help guide the future of the platform. The team has several major milestones planned for the coming months, so the mainnet release is only just the beginning.

Pundi X (NPXS)

📷
Pundi X has been shooting up the market cap rankings so far in Q3 2018, and they also happen to have a working product that just recently became available to retailers.
The primary Pundi X product is a point-of-sale (POS) device that enables quick and easy mobile transactions for both fiat and cryptocurrencies. 500 POS devices are already being used by retailers in Asia, and there are thousands more scheduled to be distributed in the coming months.
In addition, Pundi X also offers XPASS cards, cryptocurrency credit cards that can work in place of mobile apps for making digital payments.
What makes the Pundi X project noteworthy is that it enables consumers to pay retailers in cryptocurrencies like BTC and ETH, and it immediately converts the payments into local fiat currencies so that retailers don’t need to worry about price volatility of the cryptocurrencies.
This makes it significantly easier for people to use cryptocurrencies in their daily lives, making Pundi X an exciting project for blockchain enthusiasts who are looking for signs of future mass adoption.

Waves (WAVES)

📷
Waves was the first ever blockchain platform that made it possible for anybody — regardless of their programming experience — to create blockchain tokens. Additionally, Waves has a decentralized exchange where tokens can be traded and exchanged with fiat currencies.
Since the project’s first releases in 2016, Waves has gone on to make their DEX accessible from mobile phones and expanded its functionality significantly, while also building several strategic partnerships to help grow the Waves community and user base.
Ultimately, though, the Waves Client is the project’s most important working product, as it is what allows tokens to be issued, stored, sent, and exchanged among users.

KuCoin Shares (KCS)

📷
Similar to Binance Coin, KuCoin Shares is an exchange token that can be used to pay reduced fees on cryptocurrency trades. KCS has the added bonus of paying dividends to long-term hodlers, as well, paying out a 5% ROI for most users.
The nature of KuCoin Shares is one of the reasons the KuCoin exchange has gotten so much attention since it appeared on the scene. The tokens themselves are limited in scope, of course, but the sheer number of people using them for trades and buying them for passive income is enormous.

Wanchain (WAN)

📷
Wanchain aims to build new and improved financial infrastructure to seamlessly connect the digital economy through blockchain interoperability. The use cases for Wanchain’s network are vast, and they include decentralized financial services, supply chain logistics, medical data sharing and security, digital ID management, and more.
With the recently released Wanchain 2.0, it is now possible to transfer Ether cross-chain using Wanchain’s Ethereum Mapping Token, WETH.
Ethereum interoperability is just the start, though, and it’s expected that cross-chain support for Bitcoin and a couple of ERC-20 tokens will follow before the end of 2018.

Komodo (KMD)

📷
Komodo is a fork of Zcash that uses the same zk-snark cryptography to hide information about transaction participants and amounts being sent. Functional privacy coins aren’t unique (there are a handful on this list) but Komodo does have some unique features.
For one, Komodo was the first ever decentralized initial coin offering. Moreover, Komodo helps other developers to build their own customizable blockchain solutions, from building and securing independent blockchains and launching decentralized ICOs, to integrating projects into the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
KMD would already qualify as a working product for its anonymity features on digital payments, but add the end-to-end blockchain building solution and it’s clear that Komodo is making meaningful contributions to the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Ardor (ARDR)

📷
Ardor is a scalable blockchain platform that allows businesses to create their own child chains and tokens with relative ease. This helps keep blockchain bloat to a minimum and provides multiple transactional tokens without sacrificing core chain transactions. It’s also a remarkably energy efficient platform that uses Proof-of-Stake to power consensus.
Ardor launched its mainnet on January 1, 2018 after a full year in testnet status. Its core features are largely in place, with the roadmap set to improve things like scalability and snapshotting.
The Blockchain-as-a-Service-platform hosts a few projects of its own, including the Ignis ICO, which was the first child chain on the mainnet.

Huobi Token (HT)

📷
Huobi is a digital asset exchange platform founded back in 2013, now offering well over 250 different trading pairs. The Huobi Token, meanwhile, is an ERC-20 token that is used on the exchange for discounts on trading fees of up to 50%.
In addition, 20% of the income generated on the Huboi Pro trading platform is used to buy back HT on the open market.
Unlike most buyback programs, the main purpose of Huobi’s program isn’t to reduce the circulating supply of HT. Rather, the HT that is bought back goes into a Huobi Investor Protection Fund, which is used to compensate Huobi users if they lose coins or tokens on the platform, as well as to ensure market stability and protect investor interests.

ZenCash (ZEN)

📷
ZenCash is yet another privacy coin with a working product in the Top 100, originally launched in the first half of 2017.
What makes ZenCash unique is that it’s the first blockchain with Transport Layer Security (TLS) integration for node encryption, making communication on the ZenCash network both private and highly secure.
Some other interesting parts of the ZenCash product include Tor nodes and built-in chat messaging services. In the future, the ZenCash team will deliver a DAO Treasury Protocol-level Voting System as well as a scalability solution to handle greater transaction volume.

PIVX (PIVX)

📷
PIVX is another privacy coin that focuses on keeping users and their associated transactions hidden under a cloak of secrecy. The project also tries to keep transactions as fast and fee-less as possible, something not all privacy platforms can boast about.
PIVX launched in January 2016. The coin is currently spendable and delivers the privacy features it promises, though it’s not yet a widely accepted currency by merchants.
Future plans for PIVX include governance functions to engage the community, wallet voting, and its own zPIV decentralized exchange.

Kyber Network (KNC)

📷
Kyber Network launched their mainnet in Q1 2018, enabling instantaneous and secure inter-token settlements through a Decentralized Liquidity Network.
It’s currently possible to swap ERC-20 tokens on the network with just a few mouse clicks, giving it some basic functionality that is already being used to improve liquidity for Ethereum tokens.
In the future, however, Kyber Network will expand its functionality significantly in an effort to seamlessly connect dapps, DEXes, protocols, payment systems, token teams, investors, fund managers, and digital wallets.

Bancor (BNT)

📷
Bancor is a liquidity provider that enables users to exchange tokens without the need for a third-party to be involved in financing the transaction.
Gaining liquidity is incredibly important for young cryptocurrency projects, as a lack of liquidity makes it risky for investors to buy a considerable amount of a given coin or token, knowing that it might be exceedingly difficult to sell should they wish to.
Bancor’s technology makes it possible to convert one token to another, so that investors can be confident that they won’t be stuck involuntarily holding a cryptocurrency that they want to sell. This functionality makes the Bancor Liquidity Network one of the most promising working products on this list, and one that has already achieved a good deal of adoption.

Loom Network (LOOM)

📷
Loom Network is still less than a year old, having been founded in October 2017. However, they have accomplished a lot in that short time span, including having launched numerous tools to help software developers learn how to build blockchain solutions.
The most important of these tools — and Loom’s biggest working product — is the Loom software development kit (SDK).
However, Loom Network is far more than just a simple blockchain coding academy. It is also a production-ready scalability solution for Ethereum, as the Loom developer toolkit helps programmers to build highly scalable dapps which connect to the Ethereum blockchain through special side chains called DappChains.
The project may still be in its infancy, but Loom Network is already contributing more utility to the cryptocurrency ecosystem than the vast majority of other cryptocurrency projects.

Polymath (POLY)

📷
Polymath wants to be the world’s go-to resource for security tokens on the blockchain. What Ethereum did for tokens, Polymath will do for securities.
The advantages of this are enormous, but the Polymath team likes to point to 24/7 market access, the elimination of middlemen, and trading access for 2 billion unbanked people around the world as the chief benefits of their efforts.
The Polymath platform launched in October 2017, and has since released a new security token every week, attracting investors and traders alike. It’s not as exciting of a project as some other blockchain tech, but it’s delivering on its promises with a working product.

Bibox Token (BIX)

📷
Bibox is a encrypted digital asset exchange whose primary differentiator from other crypto exchanges is that it integrates AI technology.
The purpose of the AI is to help Bibox’s traders, which it does by providing quantitative computation and analysis of trading activity, personalized risk allocation strategy, speech recognition, and objective analysis of the various coins and tokens listed on the exchange.
The Bibox exchange first launched back in November 2017. It has operation centers in the US, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Estonia. BIX token holders receive 20% of the exchange profits, and also get discounts on trading fees, similar to Binance.
